Crazy talk

Summaries of conversations I hear all the time:

Conversation #1

First Person: “I’m doing an Ironman next weekend.”

Second Person: “Wow! That’s awesome. Good luck!”

Conversation #2

First Person: “I’m doing a double century next weekend.”

Second Person: “That’s just crazy.”

I would like someone to explain the rationale implied here. Why is activity A (Ironman) not considered “crazy”, but Activity B (double century) is?

Both are epic, and take about the same amount of time: The fast guys do them in 10-11 hrs, the medium guys do them in 12-14 hrs, and the slow guys take 15-17 hrs and beyond.

So please, explain to me: Why is one “crazy” and the other not?
