Yeah, sidelined

Well, I officially canceled hotel reservations for the trip to California the other day, putting a final nail in the coffin of my hopes and dreams of doing the Solvang Double Century, and along with it, my completing the California Triple Crown this year, for all practical purposes.

Just wish I hadn’t sat on that nail first, heh heh.

It was apparent, after a medical checkup, that abusing my poor bottom with another 12 hrs of non-stop riding was probably not a good idea. It was apparent I need to lie low for a while, and slowly work my way back into riding.

Oh well, I guess I’ll have to settle for doing little ol’ century rides and such, later on. How dull, how drab, how mundane.

Just kidding!

Although, it does feel that way, a little.

A cycling friend asked me the other day why I attempt these double centuries. They couldn’t understand why anybody would want to do them. What on earth possesses me?

I told them it’s because they are, for me, the ultimate bike riding experience. Every one of them is an epic adventure – a day I will always remember. And yes, it does make the other rides seem dull, drab, and mundane.

And it seems to me, if you say you enjoy cycling, then why wouldn’t you enjoy riding all day long and into the night?

Ha!
